Old Madrid Paver

Many homeowners would consider poured concrete to be the standard choice for driveways. However, not only can concrete be a boring option, but concrete is known to be easy to crack, hard to repair, and prone to staining. Thusly, if you are considering having your driveway replaced, it may be in your best interest to take a moment to consider the benefits alternative driveway materials, such as a brick paver driveway, could provide you with. Brick paver driveways are popular among many homeowners due to the unique benefits they provide over concrete. Here is a quick look at some of the unique reasons to consider choosing driveway brick pavers over a concrete driveway.

Stain Resistant

A common problem with concrete driveways is how easily they stain. Oil and other leaking fluids from your vehicles can permanently stain your concrete driveway. Brick, on the other hand, is generally less prone to staining. Additionally, should a section of your driveway become stained, you can easily replace the brick pavers in that section of your driveway to make it look like new once again.

Easy Repairs

In addition to stains being easier to fix in brick driveways, repairs in general are much simpler with brick paver driveways. The most common problem with concrete driveways is that over time they can become cracked, pitted, and chipped. The problem then becomes that these problems generally cannot be fixed, and would require your entire driveways be replaced, which is not only a pain, but extremely expensive. With brick paver driveways, however, each paver is individual, and can be replaced should they become damaged, making paver driveways a more cost-effective option in the long run.

Slip Resistant

Another problem with concrete driveways is that they can be fairly slippery when they become wet, and can be dangerous to walk on. Brick pavers are a more slip resistant due to their naturally textured and abrasive surface. This means that paver driveways create a stable, safe surface to walk on even under wet conditions. This makes them the ideal option for people who live in wet climates.

Environmentally Friendly

Brick driveways can also be the more environmentally friendly option. If the environment is something you want to take into consideration when choosing a driveway, then brick pavers would be for you. While concrete driveways require the use of new materials and resources, you can always choose to use reclaimed pavers for the construction of your driveway, reusing existing materials. Additionally, should you choose to change your driveway in the future, these pavers can again be recycled into another project.

Flexibility

Paver driveways are also much more flexible than their concrete counterparts are. What usually causes damage in concrete driveways is the settling and shifting of the land under the driveway, which then causes the concrete to crack. However, paver driveways consist of interlocking blocks rather than a solid slab. This allows your driveway to accommodate this movement underneath it, and allows it to maintain its structural integrity better than a concrete driveway would.

In the long run, brick paver driveways can prove to be less of a hassle, and more cost-effective, than concrete driveways are. These alternative driveway surfaces are easier to maintain, are safer in wet conditions, and they are much simpler, and cheaper to repair. In fact, being able to replace individual pavers as they become damaged will likely cause your brick driveway to have a longer lifespan than a concrete driveway would. One thought on “Driveway Brick Pavers: Reasons to Choose a Brick Paver Driveway Over a Concrete Driveway

  1. I spent many years promoting and selling Clay Pavers around the UK. Quite apart from the obvious benefits of clay over concrete – colour, durability etc, aesthetically, clay is so superior. I have a clay paver drive and path around my house which is as good now as when it was laid nine years ago. Unlike most concrete drives which fade and look dull after a few years, all my pavers need is a clean once a year to remove the algae and they look as good as new.
Unfortunately, Builders Merchants promote concrete due to price, which is of course not the true price when laying costs are taken into account.
