Reclaimed Brick Matching for Historic Walls
Preserving history, one wall at a time.
Matching historic brickwork is as much craftsmanship as it is material science. Whether you’re planning an addition to a historic home, repairing an existing masonry wall, or building a new wall that needs to blend seamlessly with original brickwork, Historical Bricks specializes in authentic reclaimed brick for wall applications.
We generally work with genuine antique building bricks salvaged from structures built prior to 1920. These bricks offer the color variation, surface texture, and proportions that modern bricks—even those marketed as “antique” or “distressed”—simply cannot replicate. That said sometimes a newly manufactured brick is the answer and we work with specialty manufacturers to custom make matches for large projects.
Our Specialty: Large Quantities
Historical Bricks focuses on projects that require larger quantities of reclaimed brick for wall construction, where consistency and historic character matter most. To maintain quality and manage inventory effectively, our materials are sold in full pallet quantities.
Working in full pallets allows for better color consistency, more accurate matching, and smoother logistics on larger wall projects.
How Brick Matching Works
Historic bricks were not standardized. Size, color, and surface texture can vary widely depending on region, clay source, and firing methods. A successful match looks beyond color alone and considers:
Rather than forcing a perfect replica, our approach aims for a convincing, historically appropriate blend that feels natural within the existing masonry.
Matching Other Historic Materials
In addition to wall brick, we also assist with limited matching for other reclaimed materials, including:
Availability is limited, and projects are best suited to larger quantities where historic consistency matters.
Looking for a Small Quantity?
For small repairs—such as replacing a few bricks in a wall or chimney—local sources are often the best option. We recommend:
